Crystal Palace Boss Oliver Glasner Vows To Take Qpr Efl Cup Clash Seriously

Frank Lampard rues missed chances as Everton held by Brentford

Toffees boss frustrated as Calvert-Lewin hits the woodwork twice in goalless draw

Everton manager Frank Lampard admitted his team should have beaten Brentford after they were held to a 0-0 draw at Goodison Park on Sunday.

The Toffees had the better chances throughout the game, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin hitting the woodwork twice in the first half.

But they were unable to find a breakthrough, and Brentford could have snatched a late winner when Yoane Wissa fired wide with only Jordan Pickford to beat.

"We should have won the game," said Lampard. "We had enough chances to do so.

"We hit the woodwork twice and had other good opportunities, but we didn't take them.

"That's the frustrating thing. We need to be more clinical in front of goal.

"But I'm pleased with the performance. We played well and created chances.

"We just need to be more ruthless in front of goal.

The result leaves Everton 16th in the Premier League table, just two points above the relegation zone.

They will now face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Lampard heaps praise on Calvert-Lewin

Despite Everton's failure to win, Lampard was full of praise for Calvert-Lewin.

"He was excellent," said Lampard. "He was a handful for the Brentford defence.

"He hit the woodwork twice and had a few other good chances.

"He's a top striker and he's getting back to his best.

"I'm delighted with his performance.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank pleased with point

Brentford boss Thomas Frank was pleased with his team's point away from home.

"It was a good point for us," said Frank.

"We defended well and created a few chances of our own.

"We could have snatched it at the end, but we'll take the point.

"It's a good result for us away from home.

The result leaves Brentford 10th in the Premier League table, seven points above the relegation zone.

They will now face Wolves at home on Wednesday.
