Congresswoman Jackson Lee Mocked for Solar Eclipse Statement

Lee Said Moon is Made Mostly of Gases

Statement Widely Mocked on Social Media

Houston, TX - April 8, 2024 - Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) has been widely mocked for a statement she made at Booker T. Washington High School in Houston on April 8th, ahead of the solar eclipse.

In a speech to students, Lee confidently stated that the Moon is made up mostly of gases. This statement has been widely mocked on social media, with many people pointing out that the Moon is actually a solid body made up primarily of rock and dust.

Lee's office has since released a statement saying that she simply misspoke and that she actually meant to say that the Moon's atmosphere is made up mostly of gases. However, this explanation has done little to quell the mockery, and the incident has become a trending topic on social media.
