Ollie Watkins' hat-trick fires Aston Villa to victory
Premier League champions Liverpool thrashed 7-2 at Villa Park
Watkins scores three goals in the first half, Grealish and Barkley also on target
Ollie Watkins fired Aston Villa to a sensational 7-2 victory over Premier League champions Liverpool on Sunday, scoring a perfect hat-trick in the first half.
The striker's treble, coupled with goals from Jack Grealish, Ross Barkley, Anwar El Ghazi and Ezri Konsa, saw Villa move up to second in the table, while Liverpool slipped to fifth after their heaviest defeat since April 2014.
It was a stunning performance from Dean Smith's side, who took the lead through Watkins in the fourth minute and never looked back.
Watkins added two more before the break, with Grealish and Barkley also on target to make it 5-0 at half-time.
Liverpool pulled two goals back through Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, but El Ghazi and Konsa completed the rout in the closing stages.
It was a remarkable result for Villa, who have now won three of their last four Premier League games.
For Liverpool, it was a day to forget as they suffered their heaviest defeat since April 2014.
