Julian Assange's Final Extradition Appeal
High Court to Decide Assange's Fate
US Alleges Disclosure of Sources, Compromised Lives
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is facing his final appeal against extradition from the United Kingdom to the United States. The High Court in London is reviewing the case, and a decision is expected on May 20.
Assange is accused by the US government of publishing classified information that compromised national security. The charges include espionage and conspiracy to commit computer intrusion. Assange has denied the charges and claims that he was acting in the public interest.
US lawyers have argued that Assange's actions put lives at risk by revealing the identities of sources who provided information to WikiLeaks. The defense, however, maintains that there is no evidence to support these claims.
The High Court has ruled that the US must provide assurances that Assange will not face the death penalty if extradited. The US has provided the requested guarantees and has also pledged to treat Assange humanely.
